TREE BREWING CAPS OFF 15TH ANNIVERSARY WITH             CANADIAN BREWING AWARDS

-- Kelowna–based Craft Brewer Adds Another Four Medals To Resume --

September 12, 2011 (Kelowna, BC) – For the past fifteen years, Tree Brewing has turned some of its best-known beers into Gold. This year, the Kelowna-based craft brewer once again participated in the annual Canadian Brewing Awards, and brought home a number of additional titles. Tree’s Seasonal brew Serendipity #3 took home Gold, while Thirsty Beaver Amber Ale, Captivator Doppelbock and Hop Head Double IPA each received a bronze medal.

“This is our fifth year participating in the Canadian Brewing Awards and we are pleased once again that the judges honour the dedication of our Brewmaster Stefan Buhl and his team to crafting the best quality beer,” say Tod Melnyk, President and CEO, Tree Brewing Company. ”We strive to create great tasting beers for our customers, and the awards recognize our hard work and dedication to building a quality beer brand.”

The Gold Medal in the Wood and Barrel Aged Beer category was taken by Tree’s Seasonal brew Serendipity #3. Named for the act of making an unexpected and fortuitous discovery, Serendipity was created when brewers enlisted a whiskey barrel in the aging process. Tree Brewery created a series of five Serendipity brews, each involving a unique blend of beers and aged for over 100 days in whiskey and port barrels. The brews push the boundaries of traditional beer. Serendipity #4 and #5 will be released in 2012.

Thirsty Beaver Amber Ale took bronze in the North American Style Amber Lager category. This smooth, medium-bodied amber ale is one of the most popular Tree Brewing beers.

Tree’s Hop Head Double IPA took a bronze in the Imperial India Pale Ale category and has the flavours of five different varieties of superior hops. It boasts citrus aromas and sweet malt undertones with a slightly darker, copper colour. Hop Head Double IPA won gold at the Canadian Brewing Awards in both 2009 and 2010.

In the Bock, Traditional German Style category, Tree’s Captivator Doppelbock took bronze, and boasts toffee, light caramel and hazelnut flavour with a deep brown reddish hue with a clean smooth finish. Captivator earned Gold last year at the Canadian Brewing Awards and has previously taken home a Silver Medal at the North American Brewery Awards, and was voted Best Beer at the 2010 Fest of Ale.

“Creating beers that are distinct and memorable is very important for our limited edition releases and seasonal beers,” say Brewmaster Stefan Buhl. “Recognition from the Canadian Brewing Awards reinforces our love of creating unique beers.”

Tree Brewing Company has participated in the Canadian Brewing Awards for the past five years, with 13 awards to the company’s credit to date. The brewery is focused on brewing small batches at a time, enabling the company to produce a varied beer line that appeals to every palate.

About the Canadian Brewing Awards

The Canadian Brewing Awards have emerged as the premiere competition for judging the quality of Canadian brewed beer. The contest is the only truly national competition that invites breweries of all sizes from across the country to compete in a blind tasting to see who brews the best beer in 31 style categories.

A Canadian Brewing Award medal is now a widely recognized symbol of brewing excellence in Canada. A panel of approximately 20 Certified Beer Judges (BJCP), consider five criteria: aroma, appearance, flavour, mouth-feel, and overall impression. A maximum of fifty points can be attained.

The competition also serves as an important vehicle for informing the Canadian beer-drinking public about the variety of and quality of commercially available beers throughout the land. Every year the competition attracts new entries from small startup breweries, to the largest of the large that are dedicated to carefully crafting their product.
